No Thug Life Release In Karnataka If Kamal Haasan Doesn’t Apologise?

Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life is caught in a heated controversy in Karnataka. The actor’s comment about Kannada being born from Tamil hasn’t gone down well with pro-Kannada groups. Now, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has issued a strong warning of no release if there’s no apology.

On Thursday, KFCC stated clearly that Thug Life won’t hit Karnataka theatres unless Haasan apologises by May 30. His recent remark has upset several Kannada organisations, who now want action against the veteran star.

KFCC president M Narasimhalu addressed the press after a meeting with film industry members. He said, “Many Kannada groups have demanded a ban on his movie. We met and discussed the matter, and we've decided that he should apologise. We agree that what he did was wrong, and we are trying to meet and talk to him.”

The chamber is making efforts to resolve the matter, but the clock is ticking. Narasimhalu added that they are trying to communicate directly with Haasan before things escalate further.

Adding to the pressure, former KFCC president Sa Ra Govindu issued a sharp warning. “We have no sympathy for Kamal Haasan. If he does not issue a public apology today or tomorrow, we will support Kannada activists and will protest fiercely. Under no circumstances will we allow the film's release unless he apologises publicly.”

Veteran actress Jayamala, who once headed the KFCC, joined the wave of criticism. She said, “Whenever there is a language controversy, all Kannadigas must unite; that is our duty. Whether Kamal Haasan spoke knowingly or unknowingly, his statement was wrong. Kannada was not born out of Tamil.”

She also urged Haasan to take moral responsibility. “We are trying to talk to him and help him understand that his words were deeply hurtful to Kannadigas. It is his moral responsibility to apologise.”

However, Kamal Haasan doesn’t seem ready to say sorry. He responded by saying his statement came from a place of love. The actor said, “Love will never apologise.”
