After Kingdom Failure, Is Vijay Deverakonda Ready To Film A Sequel? Actor Writes ‘This Time…’

Vijay Deverakonda’s latest spy-action film, Kingdom, is now streaming on Netflix from August 27. Fans can finally watch the film at home after its theatrical release. Despite mixed reviews and underwhelming box office performance, Vijay seems ready to take the story further.

He hinted at a sequel on social media without making a direct announcement. Resharing a post by director Yannick Ben on Instagram, he wrote, “@yannickben see you on set soon. This time we make it even more intense.”

The film follows Suri, a humble police constable with a troubled past, played by Vijay Deverakonda. He is sent to infiltrate a deadly drug cartel in Sri Lanka while secretly hoping to find his missing brother, Siva (Satyadev). Suri faces the ruthless cartel boss Murugan, portrayed by Venkatesh, and navigates a dangerous world where trust is scarce. Along the way, he teams up with Dr. Madhu (Bhagyashri Borse), another undercover operative, combining emotional stakes with high-octane action.

Director Yannick Ben shared his thoughts on the project in an Instagram post on August 4. He wrote, “KINGDOM is now on Cinema!! It has been an incredible journey, thank you @gowtamnaidu for your trust. Working with you has been great and I hope everyone will love the hard work that we had put into it ??@thedeverakonda you are such a beautiful person to work with, the work and effort that you have done has been great and the result is here to confirm it!! I wish you all the best for what’s coming next. Thank you to the amazing team that has been part of the journey, can’t wait to see you all again soon."

Kingdom opened with strong numbers but struggled to maintain momentum. On July 31, 2025, it earned Rs. 39 crore worldwide, with India contributing Rs. 21.25 crore and overseas markets Rs. 17.75 crore. The India net collection on the first day was Rs. 18 crore.

By the end of its first week, the film had collected Rs. 42.90 crore net and Rs. 50.5 crore gross in India, plus Rs. 6.5 crore overseas, taking the worldwide total to Rs. 57 crore. However, by day 15 on August 14, collections fell sharply, with only Rs. 0.02 crore in India and overseas.

The final tally stood at Rs. 51.98 crore net and Rs. 60.79 crore gross in India, with overseas earnings of Rs. 21.25 crore, resulting in a worldwide gross of Rs. 82.04 crore. Strong competition from films like Coolie and War 2, mixed reviews, and an uneven screenplay prevented the movie from sustaining its early success.

Despite Vijay Deverakonda’s star power and the action-packed story, Kingdom failed to meet expectations and ended as a box office disaster.
