"Pratha": A Provocative Drama Unveiling the Dark Side of Traditions on 9 Red Movies

The web series “Pratha,” launched on the OTT platform ‘9 Red Movies,’ is a thought-provoking drama produced by Suryabhan Kotambe under the PSK Creative Works Pvt LTD banner. The series delivers a powerful message about respecting Indian traditions while exposing the wrongful practices carried out in their name.

Featuring well-known Bollywood actors such as Varsha Usgaonkar, Avinash Wadhawan, Adi Irani, Prasoon Arya, Shiva Rindani, Kanak Suryavanshi, Geetanjali Geet, and Yogiraj Janardan Kadam, “Pratha” is both written and directed by Santosh Kashyap. The story is set in an isolated village in Rajasthan, where an unusual and disturbing custom is practiced. This true-story-based narrative reveals how villagers marry off their daughters to handsome grooms, only to sacrifice them after a year and replace them with another young man, in the hope of bearing beautiful children. The parents of the grooms willingly participate in this tradition, believing they have been chosen for this honour.

Director Santosh Kashyap, known for his visionary approach, explores these superstitious beliefs still prevalent in parts of India. Through “Pratha,” he aims to awaken the younger generation and encourage them to raise their voices against such practices. Kashyap shares that his deep dive into these rituals, including personal visits to the rural areas where they are still followed, compelled him to bring this message to the forefront.
