Health: Pragya Calls For Self-Care With Compassion

This should be the present future of unbiased discussion towards the subject of mental health. This stigma has still hung over most heads, preventing most people from receiving proper medical attention at the right time. But mental health is really one of the vital factors compared to having a healthy body; because leaving the mind uncared for may result in permanent damage and then it will trickle down to families and friends and the community.

Understanding The Stigma

Let’s believe that this stigma toward mental health is too deep in our culture. Many people view mental health challenges as signs of weakness or personal failure. This makes them apprehensive about seeking assistance. Silence, therefore, will lead to isolation, and their struggles escalate. That is a very important change in that story so that society can understand that such a challenge may strike any person.

The Artist Experience

As an artist myself, I personally felt how emotional and mental exhaustion can be about being a part of this profession. The creative process, though satisfying enough, requires such an input of emotions; hence once it gets exhausted, we are drained. Such times when the pressure to perform as well as the constant pursuit of perfection can be just overwhelming. Such times call for therapy beyond mere benefit-hood.It is a fact that taking the search for help takes much courage and an understanding of one’s very human experience.

Normalise help-seeking Behaviour

For, asking for help isn’t a weakness but strength. Talking about taboo mental health and the normalization of the same opens up a space which people come to share their experiences with and feel each other’s presence as mutual support and understanding make them realize that they are not a lone battle. Breaking through walls with the encouragement to talk about mental health tends to heal.

Creating Safe Spaces

This will be possible if we create an environment where such a person is free to him/herself without making any judgments. Openness should be promoted in schools, at workplaces, or in other community organizations. And through sharing our stories and listening to them, ultimately we all build a culture of acceptance and love for issues pertaining to mental health.

Role Of Education And Awareness

Learning is another powerful weapon against stigma. Education of the mental health condition de-spiralizes it, thereby leading to clear understanding. Education in the schools and at the places of work will ensure that the people, both patients and service providers, keep their mental well-being fit and seek help when needed. Open communication concerning mental health is the first step toward healing and understanding. Along with discussions to the forefront and mutual support, we shall be able to make a sane society which treats mental health like their physical health. Along with silence over mental health, we can make an immense difference in peoples’ lives suffering from mental disorders. We should pave our own way through openness, education, and mutual support to a better and healthier life in this world.
