Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Opens IMAX Ticket Sales One Year Before Release

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] July 16: Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic venture, The Odyssey, is already breaking records before even hitting theatres. According to Variety, IMAX tickets for the film will go on sale this July 17, 2025, which is exactly one year ahead of its scheduled release date on July 17, 2026.

The bold move is a shocking a surprising strategy used for any major studio film. However, fans and industry insiders aren’t surprised, considering Nolan’s proven success with past blockbusters, including Oppenheimer , Tenet, and Inception.

The early bird tickets will only be available for select showtimes and exclusively at IMAX 70mm-equipped theatres. Nolan, a long-time champion of film over digital, has always emphasized the importance of large-format cinema for an immersive experience. The Odyssey is no exception.

Although Universal Pictures and IMAX have not issued official statements, the report alone has caused a massive stir among fans and cinephiles.

Christopher Nolan’s film is a modern retelling of Homer’s epic poem, following the journey of Odysseus as he tries to return home after the Trojan War.

The movie features an ensemble cast of A-listers, including Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo (in an undisclosed role). 

Earlier this week, photographers spotted Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya shooting scenes in Scotland. Damon wore a full costume that included a traditional Greek tunic, cattle armor, and a flowing green cape. Holland and Zendaya, who are engaged in real life, arrived by boat, likely preparing for their scenes as Telemachus and another key character.

The exclusive teaser of The Odyssey was recently shown exclusively in theatres before Jurassic World: Rebirth. The teaser revealed Holland’s Telemachus interacting with Jon Bernthal’s character, though plot details remain tight-lipped. A voiceover by John Leguizamo added to the mystery, giving fans even more to speculate on. 

With early ticket sales, a massive cast, and Nolan’s signature large-format storytelling, The Odyssey is shaping up to be a landmark cinematic event. Fans lucky enough to snag those limited IMAX 70mm tickets will be the first to secure their spot for what could be the most visually ambitious film of 2026.
