Governor Actor Manoj Bajpayee Reveals Why He Never Relies Only On A Director’s Vision; Says, “Muh Dho Kar..."

In a recent conversation with The Filmy Charcha Podcast, host Rahul Varun sat with Manoj Bajpyaee for his film Governor: The Silent Saviour, directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film tells the story of 1991 Balance of Payments crisis in India. When the actor was asked whether he already knew this story before the film, Manoj Bajpayee said, "Main theatre kar raha tha toh isliye mujhe headline toh pata hai. Woh jo news hai us baare mein pata thi cheezein." The actor revealed that he knew the headlines but not the complete story.

Speaking about what surprised him most, the Governor actor said, "Lekin kya-kya hua band kamron mein kaise-kaise decision liye gaye kya-kya uske liye mashakkat karni padi kin-kin halaaton se guzarna pada iske baare mein humein bilkul idea nahi tha." Manoj further added, "Na aisi koi documentation hui uski." These remarks showed how many important details of that period remained unknown even to someone who remembered the news from that time.

The National Award winning performer explained that the broad event was familiar but the behind the scenes journey was not. Manoj said, "Lekin jo kahani kahi ja rahi hai woh toh hui aur hui thi aur is tareeke se hui thi yeh humein jaankari nahi thi" and this statement highlighted why historical dramas often bring forgotten chapters back into public discussion. The film explores the difficult decisions taken during one of India's most challenging economic moments.

Rahul Varun then asked whether actors simply follow directors and writers or do their own research. Responding firmly, the actor said, "Bahut mehnat karta hoon main. Itni aasaan koi cheez hoti nahi hai." Manoj made it very clear that preparation is an essential part of building a believable character and cannot be skipped.

The acclaimed actor also reacted to the idea that some performers only follow a director's vision. Manoj said, "Kuch actors kehte hain maine sirf director ko follow kiya hai. Woh toh aap tabhi follow kar paayenge na jab aapki apni taiyari ho." The A. Ramanan actor continued, "Aapki taiyari nahi ho muh dho karke aur naha karke aap aa gaye ho toh kaise follow kar paoge aap." For him deep preparation is what allows an actor to truly understand and execute a director's vision.
