Quentin Tarantino on Animated Movies: Why He Loves Toy Story  but Avoids Sequels

In a recent interview, famed director Quentin Tarantino revealed he doesn’t watch all animated movies. However, he’s a huge fan of the Toy Story trilogy.

“I don’t watch every animated film out there, but I’m definitely a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy,” Tarantino shared in a viral clip.

The Magic of the Toy Story Trilogy

During his appearance on the Club Random podcast with Bill Maher, Tarantino praised the Toy Story films. He called the third movie in the trilogy “one of the best movies I’ve ever seen” and described it as a perfect ending to the series.

“I think they ended the story perfectly with the third movie,” he said. “So, even if the fourth film is good, I have no interest in seeing it. For me, the story is complete.”

Why Some Trilogies Fall Short

Tarantino also discussed what makes a trilogy great and which ones don’t quite hit the mark. He cited the Dollars Trilogy—A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly—as the perfect example of a trilogy that works exceptionally well.

He explained that these films succeeded because they were all directed by Sergio Leone, maintaining a consistent vision. According to Tarantino, the series starts strong and each sequel surpasses the previous one.

The Challenge of Sequels

Tarantino compared this to other film series, like Mad Max, which he believes struggled to maintain the same level of quality throughout their sequels.
