Pandit Ronu Majumdar Sets Guinness World Record with 546-Musician Symphony

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] January 11: At Madhya Pradesh's famous Gwalior Fort, Pandit Ronu Majumdar sets a Guinness World Record with a symphony of 546 musicians.

Ronu Majumdar, a flautist and pandit from Mumbai, set a Guinness World Record at the Gwalior Fort in Madhya Pradesh by conducting a symphony of 546 musicians. Since the performance has been formally acknowledged as the largest symphony in the world to perform a single work, this accomplishment represents a turning point for Indian classical music.

Pandit Majumdar was recently recognised for his achievement at the official Guinness World Records felicitation ceremony.

"I am pleased to announce that my composition Samvet has entered the Guinness World Records," Pandit Ronu Majumdar said in reference to the accomplishment. With 546 members, I am honoured to be the leader and composer of the largest Hindustani classical band listed in the Guinness World Records. Richard Stenningji and Nishchal Barotji gave me the world record certificate.

He said, "This is a landmark moment in my life," to further convey his happiness. It is a sobering experience to have 546 musicians, the largest Indian orchestra, listed in the Guinness World Records. The three ragas that comprised the composition "Samvet"—Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki todi, and Darbari—were instrumental in our accomplishment of this esteemed accolade.

Pandit Ronu Majumdar expressed his sincere appreciation to a number of people and organisations for their faith in him, including the Central Government, the Cultural Department, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav, and the Madhya Pradesh Government.
