FAN Writes Open Letter to Danish Husain for his Powerful Performance as Yami Gautam Dhar’s Father in HAQ

Yami Gautam Dhar is roaring on the big screens with her recently released film, HAQ. Directed by Suparn S Varma and produced by Junglee Pictures, the film refuses to fade! While Yami excels beyond perfection as Shazia Bano, her voice for change is amplified manifold by her on-screen father, Danish Husain, who stood beside his daughter against the whole judicial system and a rigid religious order. 

After watching the impactful film, a social media user named Diksha Dubey wrote an open letter to Maulvi Basheer Ji and Shazia’s on-screen father Danish Husain, hailing his unshakable courage to support his daughter against a male-dominated system, who reminded Shazia - and every other woman - that when the world expects them to surrender their dignity, they must never do so.

A part of her letter read, “You reminded society that your daughter is not just a gender (samjhayiye apni ladki ko), but a human being who deserves unconditional respect (Shazia naam hai meri bachhi ka). You reminded Shazia that she was right - when no one else, not even her mother, did.” As Shazia’s father, Danish Husain drew the line between being a supportive father and a respected member of the society. The viewer’s note further read, “Where did you find the courage to go against your samaaj for your daughter - when daughters were once seen as liabilities? Why did you risk your samaaj ki izzat just to restore your daughter’s self-respect? You did something we still struggle to do, even thirty years later.”

This open letter is a respectful celebration of Maulvi Ji’s triumph as a father, as a guardian, and as a symbol of change for not just Hindustani Muslim women but every woman. She concludes the letter by hailing Danish Husain’s honest portrayal, “From a daughter who honors your courage The character is beautifully played by @dan.husain ??”

To this, Danish Husain reacted to the kind words and commented, “Thank you @dikshaadubey ?? Humbled.”

At times when daughters are being heard for voicing change, the credit also goes to the fathers supporting them to roar the loudest in a predominantly male-dominated society. Meanwhile, HAQ is headlined by Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar and it is directed by Suparn S Varma, written by Reshu Nath and produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.
