Sunny Deol on Playing Lord Hanuman in Ramayana: “It Will Be Exciting, Beautiful and Challenging”

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] August 16: Sunny Deol is all set to play Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari's magnum opus Ramyana. The shooting for Part 1 is complete, and the team is gearing up to start shooting for Part 2 soon. Now, in an interaction with Zoom, Sunny revealed that he will begin shooting for the film very shortly, and he also expressed his excitement for the project by saying, “It Will Be Exciting, Beautiful and Challenging”

Talking about his role, Sunny shared that “it will be exciting, it will be fun”, adding that “it’s going to be great, it’s going to be beautiful.” Sunny also spoke about the fear factor. “See, nervousness or fear – that factor is there. But that’s the beauty of It, because you have to find within yourself how you’re going to take up the challenge and how you’re going to live up to it. And you’re getting the opportunity to do it, and I’m very sure Amit, the producer, they’re doing a great job of it,” he said.

Sunny Deol expressed his confidence in director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Madhu Mantena for mounting the project at an international scale. The actor hopes that Ramayana will set new benchmarks in Indian cinema.

“They are going to bring out those supernatural things and those effects on screen, which I hope – fingers crossed – are nothing less than what Hollywood has. When it comes to the big screen, the way all the actors involved in it are performing, I’m sure there will be justice to everything, and people will feel satisfied and enjoy the whole film,” Sunny said.

Sunny Deol will be sharing screen space with Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram. Praising his co-star, Sunny remarked, “It’s going to be great because he’s such a fine actor, and he always takes up a project and lives it completely.”

Reports suggest Sunny Deol’s character will be introduced towards the end of the first instalment, with less than 30 minutes of screen time. The film is expected to conclude with Hanuman’s arrival, setting the stage for Ramayana: Part 2, where his role will expand significantly.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The magnum opus will be released in two parts, with Ramayana: Part 1 hitting theatres on Diwali 2026, followed by Ramayana: Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
