Sonakshi Sinha on Marriage: ‘Love, Not Religion, Matters’

India (28 February, 2025): In June 2024, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha tied the knot with longtime boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal. Their wedding was not just a celebration of love but also a statement against societal stereotypes. Opting for the Special Marriage Act, they proved that love transcends religion.

Unlike traditional marriages, Sonakshi and Zaheer did not follow religious customs but instead registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act. This act, introduced in 1954, allows couples of different faiths to marry without conversion. For Sonakshi, this was a natural decision, as she believed in love rather than religious labels.

There were rumors that Sonakshi’s father, veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, was unhappy with the union. However, these speculations were put to rest when he attended the wedding, blessing the couple. He expressed that his daughter’s happiness was his priority, setting an example for modern parenting.

Sonakshi recently opened up about her marriage and how religion was never a concern. In an interview, she said, “We never discussed religion. We respect each other’s beliefs and celebrate our cultures together.” Her words highlight how love is built on mutual respect, not religious conformity.

Many wondered if Sonakshi would convert to her husband’s religion after marriage. However, she clarified that Zaheer never imposed his faith on her. “There was never a question of conversion,” she said. Their relationship is based on love and understanding rather than religious expectations.
