“ One drink ke baad aap gaatein ho toh.....”: Singer Shaan Talks About Substance Abuse in Bollywood Music industry

Bollywood singer Shaan has a pleasant charm, in plenty of his soul-stirring songs that we have danced to at every party around the year as well as how effortlessly he comes across on screen but oh boy when he speaks about what goes undercover- you got hooked. Shaan and The Real PictureOn his podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, Shaan minced no words as he addressed the issue of substance use in Bollywood – especially by artists who depend on alcohol or drugs for “creative boosters.” A good mix of humor, wisdom and genuine concern he shared his personal stories warned the youngsters about how everything comes with a risk.

Shaan’s confession on Alcohol

“One drink ke baad aap gaate hain to woh kamal hota hai,” confessed Shaan but that initial push even if by an idea of drinking is enough. He described how a single drink could give you the emotion necessary for beautiful singing, and it was like magic. However, in keeping with his famously blunt disposition, he soon made it into a cautionary tale. “It feels all the more poignant after two drinks, but by three it is you singing and no one listening. He made his usual assertion that it is a fine line between using small nudges and falling into the trap.

Bhaang episode during Holi

A personal account from Shaan that everyone can relate to, and learn a thing or two remembering the time he tried bhaang on Holi, he described all of the “graphic ideas” it had sowed in his mind. But, acknowledging that reality should not move us to shy away from risk or responsibility: he warned his hearers sternly about the cost of these moments as well. “Eventually, this monkey brain…you feel that it is supporting you but effectively what are doing — You must be burning your grey cells. It’s injurious,” he warned.

Creatives need to Adopt athlete level ethics

He likened creatives to athletes, saying that if an athlete wouldn’t use something because it would slow them down or cloud their mind, then a creative should do the same thing. He made it crystal clear to the younger generation: “Don’t use substances as a crutch.” “Ultimately, that’s not good. You cant even think without that forget long-term: “so imagine the handicap,” he underscored.

Open eyes clarity

In an age where stories about artists fighting with addiction are all too common, Shaan’s verbiage welcomes open-eyed clarity. However, he is actually talking about a larger problem in the Hollywood — that creativity necessarily must come with an artificial enhancer. Though the typical belief is drugs can help one’s creative process, Shaan stated: “Do non use it professionally. Really you should not be doing anything that became like a crutch, in fact.

Refreshing monologue

In an industry where stories of drug abuse are whispered but seldom spoken about, Shaan is refreshingly blunt. And it acts as an important reminder: talent doesn’t long for a shortcut; creativity emanates from the mind that’s working well. If stars like Shaan can take the step forward, then perhaps Bollywood could start swerving the narrative and realise that you can succeed without allowing yourself to be pulled into one of these molds.
