It Wasn’t My Idea: Director Kookie Gulati’s Honest Take on Jewel Thief

When asked about where the idea for the film came from, he quickly gave all the credit to Sidharth Anand, the producer. It was Sidharth Anand's ready script, and Kookie only came in later to shape it for the screen. That honesty made fans sit up and listen.

The Filmy Charcha's Journalist Asked – "Sir, how did the idea of ‘Jewel Thief’ come to your mind? Was there any real-life inspiration?"

Kookie Gulati replied with full honesty. He said, "This idea was not mine at all. It was completely the vision of our producer, Sidharth Anand. The full script was already prepared by him. I was called after that, once everything was written. Sidharth gave me the opportunity to direct this story and I felt overwhelmed. It was a big moment for me."

Director Kookie Gulati responded very honestly. He said, “Actually, the entire idea and vision of Jewel Thief came from Sidharth Anand, who is also the producer of the film. The script was already prepared by him before I came on board. He had imagined everything—the plot, the characters, the thrill. I was invited after the script was ready, and I felt truly overwhelmed. It was a huge honour for me that Sidharth trusted me to direct his story and bring his vision to life on screen.”

Kookie further explained, “Once I joined the project, I did give my own inputs. I reworked some parts of the script, shared my ideas, and added a few changes to match my style. But the foundation and concept were all his. The entire credit for the original idea goes to Sidharth Anand.”

He added with gratitude, “It was not my story to begin with, but I made it my own along the way. Still, it started with him—and without him, this film wouldn’t exist.”

With Saif Ali Khan leading the gang, along with Jaideep Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta, Jewel Thief is promising both thrill and style. These names alone can grab the public's attention. Saif’s comeback in a strong role like this has added to the buzz. Kookie said that working with such actors gave him space to experiment and push the thrill factor.
