Akshay Kumar is teaming up with a familiar filmmaker once again. More than a decade after Baby, the actor is set to reunite with Neeraj Pandey for Farhan Akhtar's upcoming RD Burman biopic.

The actor has reportedly signed a special role in the film. While the makers are keeping details under wraps, sources say his character will play an important part in the story.

According to a Pinkvilla report, Akshay Kumar agreed to join the project as soon as Neeraj Pandey narrated the role. A source said, "Akshay and Neeraj share immense mutual respect, and it didn't take much convincing for the actor to say yes. The moment Neeraj narrated the role, Akshay agreed to be a part of the film. It's a special appearance, but one that carries a lot of weight in the story."

The makers have not revealed which character Akshay Kumar will play. However, insiders say his appearance will have a major impact on the film.

The film marks Akshay Kumar's first collaboration with Neeraj Pandey since Baby in 2015. Before that, the duo worked together on Special 26 (2013), one of Hindi cinema's most loved heist thrillers. Their successful track record has made this reunion one of the biggest talking points around the upcoming biopic.

Farhan Akhtar will step into the role of legendary music composer RD Burman. The film is directed by Neeraj Pandey and backed by his production house along with Excel Entertainment. The biopic will trace the life and musical journey of RD Burman. Production is expected to begin in September.

The team has already started pre-production, with special attention on recreating RD Burman's timeless music. The report stated, "The team has already begun extensive pre-production, with music sittings currently underway to recreate and celebrate Burman's timeless legacy. Akshay Kumar was last seen in Welcome to the Jungle, which released on June 26. His next film is Priyadarshan's horror-comedy Haiwaan, where he reunites with Saif Ali Khan after Tashan.
