‘Aaj Toh Dil Dukhaya Hai…’ Rapperiya Baalam Furious Over Shoorveer Song’s Use In Mirzapur The Movie

Rapperiya Baalam has spoken out against the use of his song “Shoorveer” in Mirzapur The Movie. The Rajasthani artist claims the track was used for a scene involving gangsters without his permission or credit.

“Shoorveer” was created as a tribute to Maharana Pratap. Rapperiya said seeing it used in this setting deeply upset him and made him feel that Rajasthan’s history had been disrespected.

Rapperiya addressed the issue in a video shared on Instagram. He began by saying he never thought he would have to make a post like this, before adding, “Aaj to dil dukhaya hai (You have hurt me).” He said people may wonder why he was upset about his song appearing in a film as popular as Mirzapur The Movie. Rapperiya claimed the team did not approach him before using the track.

The artist then highlighted the song’s connection to Maharana Pratap Singh. He questioned the decision to place it alongside villains and gangsters in the story.

Rapperiya said he would have offered several other songs if the filmmakers had contacted him. Instead, he claimed he was unaware of who obtained the rights to “Shoorveer.”

“But to use it without permission…I don’t know who you took the rights from. I am hurt because I feel like you’ve insulted Rajasthan and Maharana Pratap ji. It’s not something I can digest,” said the musician.

He also spoke about the sacrifices Maharana Pratap made and the hardships he faced for the country.

Rapperiya’s comments sparked a response from the Instagram page Folk Music of Rajasthan. The page backed the musician and objected to the song being used in a crime drama.

It wrote, “History is meant to be respected, not mixed with crime dramas for cheap entertainment value. As a Rajasthani, I want to say please Do not mock the sacrifices of our heroes. Stop misrepresenting Rajasthani culture. #respecthistory #maharanapratap #shoorveer #saverajasthaniculture.”

The page also raised the issue of the alleged missing credit. It wrote, “The song “Shoorveer” was written to celebrate the legacy and dignity of warriors. Turning around and inserting it into a gangster drama without the artist’s knowledge is bad enough, but denying Rapperiya Baalam his rightful credits while everyone else gets theirs? That’s where the industry fails its independent creators. Mainstream platforms need to stop diluting regional history and bypassing legal courtesy.”

Mirzapur The Movie is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar produced the film under Excel Entertainment.

Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan lead the cast. The film expands the world of the Amazon Prime Video series Mirzapur, which premiered in 2018. John Stewart Eduri composed the film’s score. Ray, Junaid Kumar, Anand Bhaskar and Dhanda Nyoliwala are credited for its music.

The film has reportedly crossed Rs 50 crore in India and Rs 70 crore worldwide within two days of release.
